You ask what we can do as individuals, communities, society and government to improve the lives of those who are most disadvantaged. This Government set out its commitment to improving the lives of disabled people in the recent, work, health and disability green paper.
This makes the case for taking action across the welfare and health systems to improve support for disabled people to move into work, where that is appropriate. Alongside this, Government is committed to providing financial support where it is needed; this is reflected by the fact that spending to support disabled people with health conditions will be higher in real terms in every year to 2020 than it was in 2010.
Additionally, Government recognises the need to monitor the effectiveness of its policies and make changes where needed. Government has commissioned independent reviews of policies which affect potential vulnerable people, including Employment Support Allowance, Personal Independence Payment and sanctions. The Department of Work and Pensions will respond to the second review on the PIP assessment later this year.
