Sylvia Mac and her organisation, LoveDisfigure, featured prominently in yesterday’s (16th July 2018) Daily Mirror – in fact it covered two whole centre pages! It pushes Sylvia’s aim to confront body issues right to the very top of the agenda. Her campaign to promote body confidence is gaining strength on a daily basis and she is inconstant demand to organise more photo shoots and deliver motivational speeches.
Daily Mirror – 16th July 2018
The paper echoes what a lot of women are now feeling. Frantically trying to tone their wobbly bits and slapping on the fake tan, ready to slip into a summer bikini. But for a considerable number of women that’s something that fills them with dread.
Sylvia Mac – Founder of LoveDisfigure
When aged just 4, Sylvia and her siblings were playing ‘hide and seek’. Her mother told them not to go into the bathroom as she was boiling water to put into a bowl for their bath. As soon as her mother had disappeared Sylvia and one of her sisters ran towards the bathroom. She ran inside to hide and, as the door opened, she fell backwards into the boiling water.
She suffered 3rd and 4th degree burns over her back and various parts of her body – the injuries were so bad that her family were told she would probably not survive.
In the article Sylvia, and five other girls, tell their stories about their struggles to regain confidence in the way they look.

Michelle, who also appeared in the feature recently launched her own ‘Scarred Not Scared’ campaign. “I love what Sylvia is doing,” she says, adding, “Taking part in this shoot was the least I could do to help raise awareness. There’e absolutely no doubt that the fashion industry needs to change and to accept we all have our own shapes, our own scars. We’re all different and special.”

Sylvia and her LoveDisfigure Organisation are on a mission. Just turned 50 it has taken her decades to accept her body – and to love it.
“I spent many years suffering with anxiety, depression, PTSD but have now learned to change my life. I campaign for those suffering with their disfigurement by raising awareness and showing support through my blogs and social media. I continue to share my photos and reach out to different industries so people affected by their appearance can become Olympic swimmers, actors, actresses, dancers, lawyers etc.
Don’t allow the way you look stop you from achieving. It’s never too late to achieve your dreams and helping others achieve theirs. It does not matter what age you are, you can still live your life happily and fulfilled.”
