From the ‘Migraine Trust’
In this edition we mark International Women’s Day with blogs on women’s health and migraine. There is the opportunity to take part in several surveys, to learn more about cluster headache, read our Annual Review for 2021, and we have tips on how to manage migraine during Ramadan.
Women’s health and migraine
On 8 March we celebrated International Women’s Day, and to mark it, we published blogs focusing on women and migraine.
- Our first blog by Professor Anne MacGregor, a specialist in headache and women’s health, looks at migraine and perimenopause. Professor MacGregor explains the role of fluctuating oestrogen levels and how to manage perimenopausal migraine. You can read about migraine and perimenopause here.
- Our second blog is this month’s Q&A, answering the most common questions for our Helpline regarding migraine and women’s health. From puberty and pregnancy to the menopause and perimenopause, we have your answers here.
Event
If you would like to learn more about women and migraine we are also holding a virtual Managing Your Migraine with Professor Anne MacGregor. You can register for the free event here.
Survey
We also launched a survey into women’s experience of migraine. We want to raise greater awareness of the huge impact migraine can have throughout a woman’s life, from decisions around work and family to the overall management of their health. We would be grateful if you could share you experience by clicking the button below.
WOMEN’S EXPERIENCE OF MIGRAINE SURVEY
Annual Review for 2021
We have just published our Annual Review for 2021. It looks at what we did in 2021, why we did it, and the impact it had.
It was a year of growth and change. In 2021 we were able to increase the information and support our Helpline gave by 55% compared to 2020, and we launched our Dismissed for too long report which outlined the changes in migraine healthcare that we are now campaigning for.
You can read our Annual Review here.
Children’s experience of migraine
We are developing a new programme for children with migraine and want to hear about the experience of children with migraine, their parents and carers, as well as people working in schools to find out how they help pupils with migraine.
The surveys are short and anonymous but will be invaluable in helping us decide what we need to do to help children with migraine over the next few years, so please share your experience in them if you can.
The evening of 2 April will mark the beginning of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic year.
This is a time for prayer, reflection, sacrifice and the coming together of people. During this time people fast from dawn until sunset, avoiding any food and drink. Fasting might trigger a migraine attack for some people.
If you are partaking in Ramadan and live with migraine, we have some tips on how to manage your migraine. From dealing with caffeine withdrawal and dehydration to changes to meal times, we have tips for you here.
Cluster Headache Awareness Day
The 21 March marked Cluster Headache Awareness Day and we published a blog on it that answered commonly asked questions about cluster headache and migraine.
From symptoms and duration to information about who gets cluster headaches, we have your answers.
You can learn more about cluster headaches and migraine here.
CGRP drugs for migraine survey
Have you used calcitonin gene-related peptide antibodies (CGRP) monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) drugs for migraine?
We would like to hear about your expectations of using the drugs as well as your experience, and are running a survey into this.
If you would like to take part you can find the survey here.
