Recently Crisis joined in the national celebration of Volunteers’ Week. Every year the volunteering community comes together to recognise the contribution that millions of people across the UK make by freely giving up their time and energy to help good causes.
Volunteers have always been an indispensable part of Crisis’ mission to end homelessness. Crisis at Christmas is made possible by the thousands of volunteers who come together each year to support people with nowhere else to go during the festive period. Volunteers also play a vital role in our services, Skylight centres and shops every day.
We are so grateful to them for giving their time, sharing their skills and passions to support people out of homelessness.
Ahead of Volunteers’ Week, we caught up with some volunteer team leads and asked them how the volunteers they work with make a difference. We wanted to share some of these thoughts with you.
Volunteering in your community
When you think about homelessness, you may reflect on the experiences you see and hear close to home in your own local community. You may want to find an opportunity to help out in your community, but they’re not always easy to find. We have listened and have an answer: two new community volunteer roles. Both roles involve building support to end homelessness in local areas, one with a focus on building a fundraising group of like-minded people and the other on raising awareness where you are.
We really are so grateful for each and every volunteer that gives their time to end homelessness, thank you for taking the time to read about them.
All the best,
David Copsey
