CRISIS AT CHRISTMAS

From ‘CRISIS’

Every year Crisis at Christmas opens its doors to people who are experiencing homelessness. Offering much needed warmth, healthcare and company across the regions of Great Britain.

What we offer guests will vary from place to place but could include hot food, social events and valuable services such as health checks, eyecare and dental appointments. In London we will be providing accommodation where each guest will have their own room, in some cases for over a month.

You can read about Sammy who was a Crisis at Christmas guest last year and how they are leaving homelessness behind.

Sammy’s story

Sammy had been a teacher in Dominica until she had a stroke aged 30. “I couldn’t go back to teaching.”

When she came to the UK six years ago Sammy was living with her grandfather, she couldn’t work as her immigration status was never settled. Their homeĀ  was destroyed by a fire. “I was sent to a hostel. I was worried all the time.”

“It was when I was in the hostel that I found out about Crisis. I came to a hotel in December and stayed for a month.”

Sammy had her own room, where she was to relax with a good book. She got the advice and support she needed to start to sort her immigration status.

“It made a big difference to my life. I was not worried about what might happen. I felt safe in the hotel and that I would be OK.”

Christmas volunteering roles available now!

Behind every life-changing moment for our guests at Christmas are the volunteers up and down the country, standing with them every step of the way.

Last year our volunteers were able to welcome members and guests to in-person events for the first time since the pandemic. Guests and volunteers could share real social connection once again at Christmas. This year you could help provide that same joy, dignity and support by volunteering with us.
