FITZROY – OUR FIRST EVER CARE HOME WELCOMES TWO LIFE LONG FRIENDS

At every step of someone’s journey at FitzRoy, our staff are there to offer support and guidance, always putting the people we support first.

Donec was our first ever care home, opened by our founder Elizabeth FitzRoy in Surrey over 60 years ago. It has been refurbished and rebuilt as a mews rather than a cottage since then, and thanks to your wonderful support we have been able to develop and improve it even more, with sensory equipment and assistive technology.

At FitzRoy we really are a family, we rely on our incredible staff, our supporters – and of course the people we support and their families. It is a team effort. Thank you to each and every one of you.

Best mates for life

Graeme and Andy have been friends for more than 40 years. When their home in Cheshire had to close as it was no longer suitable for the people we supported there, service manager Davina and her team’s top priority was making sure that everyone found a new home that they loved. The team couldn’t find anywhere in the area that both men liked, and that would meet their needs – they wanted to live together. With the support of our staff in Cheshire and Donec Mews, Graeme and Andy were able to make the 200 mile move across the country together.

Karen, service manager at Donec Mews said, “They are already settling in so well. Graeme likes to pop into Andy’s house to visit, and they’re already making new friends. We love having them at Donec, they liven up the place and they have taken the move in their stride.”

We wish Graeme and Andy all the best in their new home.
