THE CARERS ALLOWANCE – 322,023 PEOPLE NOT RECEIVING PAYMENTS

THE CARERS ALLOWANCE

You could get £76.75 a week if you care for someone at least 35 hours a week and they get certain benefits.

You do not have to be related to, or live with, the person you care for.

You do not get paid extra if you care for more than one person.

If someone else also cares for the same person as you, only one of you can claim Carer’s Allowance.

As of June 23rd 2023, there were 1,323,723 customers claiming Carer’s Allowance.

But of the above figure *322,023 customers are not receiving payment.

*These customers have an underlying entitlement to Carer’s Allowance and are not receiving payment for various reasons.

For example: there being a break in their caring duties due to hospitalisation of the Disabled Person, or there are other benefits in payment which effect entitlement. These cases are maintained as active Carer’s Allowance claims and, in the event that the customer’s circumstances change, we would then review the claim to determine if payment is to be made.

The Carer’s Allowance of £76.75 (for a 35 hour caring week) equates to £2.19 per hour .. and that’s almost a quarter of the Minimum wage!

This is Dickensian!

“Please Sir, can I have some more.”
