Dear Ms. Whately
Oliver Twist, in the Charles Dickens’ novel, as he moved towards Fagin, could have said;
“Please Ms. Whately, I want some more!”
Helen Whately MP .. Minister for Social Care
And what Oliver could have been concerned about was the amount of money that hundreds and thousands of unpaid carers were being paid, for a minimum of 35 hours a week, to look after after family and friends – who, would otherwise, cost the NHS a fortune.
And that amount is £2.19 per hour! Dickens’ Work House’s would have been so pleased!
The amount of £2.19 per hour is less than a quarter of the adult minimum wage which, currently, stands as £10.42!
Which leads us to ask this question of the Minister; “Do you thinks it’s fair to pay unpaid carers a quarter of the minimum wage?
It is estimated that the UK’s unpaid carers save the treasury over £135bn per year – and save the NHS from collapse.
“Please Ms. Whately, I want some more.”
Minister .. we very much look forward to hearing from you.
