Many private hospitals are gaining from getting tax breaks whilst NHS units don’t. More than a quarter of the 457 private hospitals receive rate relief of 80 per cent because they are registered as charities.
Unfortunately for the NHS, business rate changes means that their centres in England and Wales will see their annual rates soar by 21 per cent over the next five years. Several Trusts are now calling on the Government to give them rate relief on a par with the private sector.
