ONLY 21 FTSE COMPANIES HAVE SIGNED UP TO BE DISABILITY CONFIDENT

The Minister for Disabled People, Penny Mordaunt, has challenged the FTSE Companies (100 of them) to become Disability Confident.

So far only 21 have signed up and these include Marks & Spencer, BT & Royal Mail.

The Disability Confident scheme enables organisations to play a leading role in changing attitudes for the better. They are able to change behaviour and cultures in their own businesses, networks and communities.

The Minister said, “A fantastic range of employers from small start ups to influential businesses like The Guiness Partnership and TBT recruitment are making a public commitment to improve opportunities for disabled people. If they can do it, every one of the FTSE 100 companies can take the first step by signing up to be Disability Confident too.

Disabled people make up a significant proportion of the potential work force, and employers must ensure they don’t miss out on some of the best talent in the community. I urge our country’s top businesses to use their power and influence to set the agenda on disability employment for companies everywhere.”
