LET’S GET ‘DISABILITY CONFIDENT’ MOVING

We have commented before on the ‘Disability Confident’ scheme and listed the 21 FTSE 100 companies that have signed up. But, as we said, that means a massive 79 of our largest companies haven’t!

We’re shortly going to name the companies that haven’t joined and ask them why.

Penny Mordaunt

We congratulated Penny Mordaunt MP (the former Minister for the Disabled) in her efforts to encourage companies to embrace the concept and we would now like to salute Rebecca Harris MP (MP for Castle Point in Essex) for doing the same.

But more pressure needs to be put on the largest companies (because the smaller employers will then follow) to ‘show-up’ and ‘join-up’.

In the above photo Essex LOC chairman, Stuart Humphrey said, “Signing up to the first level of the Disability Confident initiative shows an inclusive, forward thinking attitude that reflects well on both practitioner and practice.”

This Government initiative asks for businesses to sign up and show their support. Businesses can sign up and progress through three levels of activity in the scheme, each one demonstrating an increased support for those with disabilities in the work place.
