THE NAKED TRUTH – HOW SYLVIA MAC HIGHLIGHTED HER BODY POSITIVE CAMPAIGN

Sylvia Mac started her body-positive campaign to come to terms with burn scars on her back – and now other women have joined her in their swimsuits to prove disfigurement is beautiful.

Led by founder Sylvia Mac, the women each told their brave stories of coming to terms with their scars, burns and skin conditions and learning to love their reflection again.

Earlier this year, Sylvia organised a photo-shoot for over 20 men, women and children with a variety of different conditions, challenging the fashion industry to accept their scars.

It came after a long battle with her own body, after her back, legs and stomach were burnt in a horrific childhood accident.

She had spent her life trying to hide these scars, until one day when she noticed the sadness in her mother’s eyes, she decided she had to change and accept her body for what it was.

She has recently said that I’m challenging the fashion industry to be inclusive of people with disfigurements, scars and skin conditions, acne and eczema – there are so many people that have these conditions or scars. I want to challenge that.

Sylvia has followed her campaign by posting pictures of herself posing in bikinis and encouraging others to love their bodies and, through this, she says she was able to find other women like her.
