HS2 is estimated to cost £56bn! – with some thinking it could exceed £100bn!
That’s a staggering amount of money which we feel should be better used by making the rail network more accessible. And we want to prove it – and provide the evidence to Parliament.
So if you are a wheelchair user and live in London we would love to hear from you. We want to log your travel from your nearest underground station to Euston which is the terminal from where the HS2 will depart. You will be accompanied by an adult who will log times and photograph obstacles and difficulties you may face. Please join with us to make a difference!
We’re looking for six wheelchair users to help us prove this. All expenses paid.
HS2 will travel from London Euston to Birmingham. It is estimated that the travel time will be 49 minutes compared with the current running time of 1hour 24 minutes. A saving of 35 minutes. Although, as cost pressures mount, it has been suggested that trains may be forced to run slower so as to reduce expensive tunnelling work.
But how long does it take a wheelchair user to travel on the London Underground to Euston? This is an important social experiment which we believes should be examined.

And if you can’t join with us but you have experienced difficulties when travelling on the tube we would love to hear from you.
We will be sharing our findings with the Department for Transport, TfL and the London Mayor .. as well as many charities who have expressed their intentions to campaign for greater accessibility on our rail network. One of these is the Leonard Cheshire charity.
They have have just announced that 73 stations across Great Britain have been given money to make access improvements. And although this is good news for their step-free campaign it doesn’t go far enough.
Their research shows that over 40% of stations in England, Scotland and wales do not have step-free access.
