WITH THE RIGHT SUPPORT, PATIENTS ARE MORE LIKELY TO QUIT SMOKING

From the ‘British Lung Foundation’

With the right support from doctors, nurses and pharmacists, people are much more likely to quit smoking for good.

We recently carried out research into how many GPs have been trained to provide that support. Worryingly, we found that only 2% of UK GPs have been properly trained in a specific type of support called Very Brief Advice, or VBA.

We have an ambition that everybody who smokes will be offered help from their doctors and nurses, so they don’t have to go it alone. We hope that as the NHS recovers from the pandemic, all GPs will be able to get this training.

You can read in our blog about what we’re asking policy makers to do to make sure all health care professionals can play a part in helping people with lung conditions quit smoking.
