Living with migraine
The Migraine Trust, in this month’s ebulletin, we will be discussing more about our Men’s Health Awareness Month survey findings, tips on how you can support people with migraine this Giving Tuesday, an update on our latest policy work, and provide you with the tools to support someone with migraine.
Better Migraine Care
Following the launch of our Better Migraine Care campaign during Migraine Awareness Week, our chief executive Rob Music has been meeting with parliamentarians to raise awareness of the need for improved migraine healthcare.
Last week he met with Maree Todd, Scotland’s Minister for Public Health and Women’s Health, to talk about improving migraine care in Scotland, and also Wayne David MP to discuss how important awareness is and how living with migraine has affected him.
There was an important development in Northern Ireland this month, when Paula Bradshaw MLA highlighted the need for those living with migraine in Northern Ireland to be offered protection under Disability Rights legislation, as is the case in Great Britain.
We are also reaching out to leaders of local NHS organisations and health professionals to speak directly with them about the recommendations of our campaign and improving migraine care in the areas they work in.
Men’s Health Awareness Month
As November has drawn to a close so has this year’s Men’s Health Awareness Month. For Men’s Health Awareness Month we wanted to raise awareness of the 12% of UK men who are living with migraine.
In last month’s ebulletin we announced that we carried out a survey to assess how men living with migraine felt that their migraine affects their quality of life, their mental health and their experience of migraine healthcare.
Our survey found that:
- 82% of respondents said their migraine affected their social life
- 73% of respondents said their migraine affects their mental health
- 16% of respondents described their experience with migraine healthcare as positive
