The daily record produced by government of the number of people dying due to coronavirus, used to only cover deaths in hospital. This is about to change as the figures are now becoming available – in part due to public and media pressure. The Office for National Statistics and CQC are currently working to produce figures for home residents.
Whist we cannot be sure how accurate the figures are, we know that they are unacceptably high. Urgent action is needed to provide additional health care support in care homes, to test workers and residents and to provide the required personal protective equipment.
