UNPAID CARERS – IT’S BACK TO DICKENSIAN TIMES!

This is an invitation to MPs & Ministers on both sides of the House to become an Unpaid Carer for Five Days.

What we are asking for is a Member of Parliament to become an unpaid carer for five days and keep a diary that we could publish.

Could that be you?

What we are proposing will almost certainly come with major TV and media coverage. And the publicity that follows will have the most heart warming and feel good factors – and will mean our campaign will be thrust into the lime-light.

We are an award-winning activist organisation championing the rights of disabled and vulnerable people as well as unpaid carers. We have, for the last year, been highlighting the poverty that comes with the caring carried out by millions and millions of the UKs unpaid carers. The current Carers Allowance amounts to £76.75 pw which equates (because to qualify you have to care for a minimum of 35 hours) to £2.19 per hour! Charles Dickens would be turning in his grave! But Fagin would be loving it!

Who works in a caring and responsible job for just £2.19 per hour? A role that sometimes includes life and death situations!

Maybe, and to be charitable, the Government doesn’t really understand what it is like to be an unpaid carer. We want to change this perception!

We have partnered with a West Midlands carers charity who would take care of all of the logistical details including accommodation plus a ‘pool’ of people receiving care etc. .. the challenge would take place in the Redditch area of the Midlands. Maybe to last 5 days with a diary that we and you could publish.

We appreciate what a busy agenda you have but any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
